On SHEROES Radio, we say TURN UP THE VOLUME of womxn’s voices on the airwaves, because there is still a huge gender disparity in the music as well as the folx programming and presenting radio playlists.
In fact, 90% of all radio program directors in the U.S. are male.
Female-identifying radio DJ’s are also still a minority. Men are still outweighing women in radio playlists and on curated streaming platforms, not to mention festival lineups, label owners, producers, engineers, managers, etc. etc.
Our voices are not being heard in equal measure in the music industry, and that has been the accepted status quo for so long that we don’t even know what we are missing. At SHEROES, we believe raising awareness (aka the VOLUME) is where change starts.
Our SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT interview amplifies a womxn in music, and each week we share the airwaves with a Radio SHERO from one of our affiliates so we can spotlight their voices and their curation. VOLUME UP.
