Bedouine

ABOUT this week’s guest:

Bedouins are traditionally a nomadic people of the Middle Eastern deserts, including North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Syria, and Jordan. The musician Azniv Korkejian who records and performs as Bedouine, came from an Armenian family who moved from Syria to Saudi Arabia, then immigrated to the United States when she was 10, and once here, they relocated a few times before settling down in Houston Texas. As an adult, Azniv continued to move around before choosing Los Angeles, but of course, as a touring musician, traveling is still a big part of her life. Bedouine, spelled with an “e” for those language nerds like I am, gives the self-adopted name a feminine twist, and couldn’t be  more fitting. Now with the recent arrival of her fourth album, Neon Summer Skin, Azniv is taking us deeper into her origin story than she has before. Nearly a decade into releasing albums as Bedouine, her musical world building has become an even richer tapestry of heritage, personal stories, and the many inner and outward journeys taken to arrive here. As we celebrate Neon Summer Skin, and her birthday on July 15th, I'm thrilled to welcome back Bedouine as our SHERO in the spotlight.
