Our guests this week are three sisters who grew up singing and harmonizing with each other and their family, which might not sound so extraordinary until you learn that these sisters are the daughters of Zekkariyas and Zeriiya Womack, also known as the legendary duo Womack and Womack, the nieces of Bobby Womack, and the grandchildren of Sam Cooke. BG, Zeimani and Kucha first made their recording debut with their four other siblings on their parents’ 1993 album Transformation to the House of Zekkariyas, and began sharing the stage with them. But the path, even for musical royalty, is not always easy and the music industry is not always kind. The sisters found their way to L.A. to pursue their own music career in 2007, and paid their dues playing at open mics, working as background vocalists and arranging and writing for artists including Mya, and Solange Knowles. Fast forward to 2026, and the Womack Sisters at long last have released their self-titled debut album. It's taken 33 years and a whole lot of faith to arrive at this moment, and it was well worth the wait. As you'll hear BG, Zeimani and Kucha tell us, they have always known that their legacy was both an honor, and a responsibility, and staying true to that legacy was only possible because they have each other. Now they have found a kindred spirit in Bosco Mann, and a label home at Daptone Records, who share their commitment to a sound and a recording philosophy that many might assume is a thing of the past. Not only is it alive and well, but The Womack Sisters are proof that if you can hold on to your visions and dreams long enough, and especially if you have a sisterhood, anything can happen.
