Spotlight On: CAROLINE ROSE
ABOUT this week’s guest:
As a music fan, it’s exciting to see how an artist’s work evolves over time. In many cases, it’s possible to get a window into their perspectives on their journeys through life and the world around them, and we can be inspired as they respond by pushing their own boundaries. So much can be perceived not only through song lyrics, but also in creative approach, changing sonic palettes, album art, music videos, and of course, in live shows. Last time singer, songwriter, producer and musician Caroline Rose joined us on SHEROES, they had just put out their fifth album, The Art of Forgetting - a deeply vulnerable and beautiful album that was written in an unselfconscious way which reconnected them with memories of writing their first songs as a teenager, solely for themself. At the time, Caroline was grappling with memories of lost love, and a family member losing their memory, during the isolating times of the pandemic, all which brought them to a moment of surrender and letting go. Ironically, on the other side of releasing the album, it took on a huge life of its own: there was a short film, an amazing tour, performing with an orchestra in a couple of cities, and well deserved critical acclaim. Now Caroline Rose is in a new era of contemplation, though perhaps turning their lens more outward to their observations of how the music industry is - and isn’t - working, while also returning to the simpler times of their early days as a musician. As they explore and experiment with ways to completely free themselves up to simplify every aspect of their job as the musician and recording artist, Caroline Rose, they are seeking more connection with fans, and refocusing our attention on the thing that matters - the music. We’re here to celebrate the release of Caroline’s sixth album, appropriately titled, year of the slug, which was recorded by Caroline on their iPhone, self-released and only available on Bandcamp, and as they ready themselves for a solo tour of independent small venues which begins in just a few weeks. we’re thrilled to welcome back Caroline Rose to the SHEROES Spotlight.
