ABOUT THIS WEEK’S SHERO IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

Juliana Hatfield was born in Maine, and raised in Boston. Early piano lessons became a serious pursuit in high school, and her talent for the instrument got her into Berklee College of Music, where she studied voice. It was during her college years that she picked up the guitar, and met her future bandmates Freda Love and John Strohm to form the influential, yet short-lived indie rock band the Blake Babies in the late 80’s. During that time, Juliana also played in The Lemonheads, while Evan Dando joined her band for a bit as their bass player. After splitting up the band in 1992, Juliana Hatfield went solo, reuniting with Blake Babies for one album in 2001, as well as starting several side projects - including Minor Alps with Matthew Saws of Nada Surf, and the I Don’t Cares with Paul Westerberg of The Replacements. Now nearly three decades into her career, Juliana Hatfield is back with her excellent 19th solo album, Blood, and joins us this week as our SHERO in the Spotlight.

Our playlist features new music from Australian band Hiatus Kaiyote, singer-songwriter Shannon Lay, and a taste of the new album by Bachelor, the exciting collaboration between Melina Duterte (Jay Som) and Ellen Kempner (Palehound). Doomin’ Sun comes out 5/28 and they will be our guests on the next episode of SHEROES!

SHERO BIRTHDAYS:
We celebrate three SHERO birthdays this week -  Patti Labelle is 77 5/24, Lauryn Hill is 46, and Stevie Nicks turns 73 on Wednesday 5/26.

This week’s Radio SHERO:
Jill Riley from The Current in Minneapolis, MN was inspired by watching the Tina documentary, and her recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and tells us why Tina Turner is simply “The Best”.
