Spotlight On: jasmine.4.t

ABOUT this week’s guest:

Earlier this year, our amazing mix engineer, Kelly Drake, whose ears I obviously trust, sent me a text asking if i’d listened to jasmine 4 t. I was aware of her, but hadn’t listened yet to the full album. Kelly told me to listen on my next road trip. “She is a trans artist signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ label Saddest Factory Records and opened for Lucy Dacus on her last tour. It’s a vibe.” she said. I was sold. And, as usual, Kelly was right. I was moved and completely blown away by You Are the Morning, jasmine 4 t’s full length debut. Also, by the way, produced by and featuring all three members of boygenius. And as luck would have it, Lucy Dacus put out her new album, Forever Is a Feeling, just a couple months later and announced jasmine as one of her openers on the tour, which was coming to New York City to the iconic Radio City Music Hall for two nights. I got to work setting up an interview, which I’m so thrilled to be sharing with you for today’s episode. jasmine’s story of trauma, bravery, and transformation thankfully, has an inspiring and heartwarming new chapter, brought about through support from community, PTSD therapy, and music. Note to listeners: if topics of suicide and gender-based violence are triggering for you, please listen with care.
